Sightline Institute, a nonpartisan public policy research center focused on the Cascadia region, is hiring a Manager of Messaging Strategy. This strategist will translate complex policy data into values-based narratives to advance the organization’s core priorities: abundant homes, fair elections, and clean energy.
Key Areas of Impact
Opinion Research & Testing: Designs and executes public opinion polling, focus groups, stakeholder interviews, and media audits to map opposition arguments and evaluate message resonance.
Framing & Strategy Execution: Crafts evidence-based language frameworks, talking points, op-eds, and legislative testimony that help simplify policy data into compelling stories.
Legislative Strategy: Partners with research teams to build regional communication plans, trace political pathways to bill passage, and brief lawmakers across Pacific Northwest legislatures.
Coalition Empowerment: Collaborates with external advocacy groups, providing toolkits, messaging workshops, and public speaking prep to ensure unified, persuasive campaign messaging.
Who You Are
An Empirical Messenger: You have at least 5 years of experience in an opinion research firm, policy group, campaign, or academic role, backed by a strong portfolio of persuasive writing.
A Skilled Translator: You naturally break down complex academic or policy research into audience-targeted narratives while remaining deeply mindful of racial, socioeconomic, and partisan differences.
A Political Strategist: You understand how legislative committees, vote counts, and coalitions move, allowing you to connect public opinion research directly to policy outcomes.
Bonus Assets: Direct connections to Pacific Northwest communities or relationships in state capitals like Olympia or Salem are highly desired.
(Note: Sightline offers structural flexibility for this role and encourages candidates with strong foundational instincts to apply even if they do not meet every single qualification.)
