Why GAIN Power Has Multiple Job Boards
How to Use Them Right and Get Only the Emails You Really Want
You may wonder why GAIN Power has multiple job boards, including a Substack, a Google Group, a Slack channel, a dedicated Career Center, and a presence across every major social platform. That’s a lot, right? Combined, our platforms reach over 100,000K users!
Yes. And there’s a reason for every single one.
Let me break it down, clarify how to use each, and explain why our Career Center remains the heart of everything.
1. The Career Center: The Engine Behind It All
This is our primary platform. Everything starts here. It’s where:
Employers post their jobs (and pay to do so — we charge $99+ per listing to help sustain our platform).
Job seekers can customize alerts by skill, issue, location, etc.
People can upload resumes, compare salaries, and apply directly.
We’re also testing our recruitment platform, which we’re offering to employers who want added support with managing applicants.
Why this matters: This platform monetizes and keeps us sustainable, while our other platforms don’t. That’s why we require jobs to be posted here first, even if you see them elsewhere.
2. Substack: Making Jobs More Visual & Shareable
jobsthatareleft.org (this right here)
Every job posted in the Career Center is manually reformatted and shared here. The Career Center doesn’t allow branded share images or visual customization, but Substack does. It also allows us to share much more - through a visual and engaging platform.
We pull an image from the employer’s Facebook or website, give it a clean layout, and create a more engaging, shareable post. This is great for:
Sharing on social media
Giving employers more visibility
Creating a more human experience around each job
However, Substack emails are all-or-nothing. You can’t customize what you get. But you can browse the archive or forward individual posts. We recognize that
3. Jobs That Are Left Google Group: The Original
https://groups.google.com/g/jobsthatareleft
This is where many longtime users still go. We’ve had this list for years—over 40,000 people are subscribed. You can choose to get:
Individual emails
Daily digests
Weekly summaries
The platform is basic—searching and sorting aren’t great—but it’s reliable and easy to follow.
We don’t love that it’s controlled by Google (not us), and yes, it’s clunky. But it’s still working for many.
4. Slack: Real-Time Job Alerts + Community Conversation
We’re building a more interactive, two-way space on Slack. We now have a career-advice-and-jobs channel where:
All job posts are auto-fed daily.
You can ask questions, share feedback, or offer advice.
Connect in real time with others navigating democracy careers.
Slack is a growing part of the GAINiverse, and we want it to be a home for discussion, not just broadcasting.
5. Social Media: Reaching Even Further
We post jobs and news daily across our active social channels:
LinkedIn: linkedin.com/company/gainpower (and my personal LinkedIn)
Twitter / X: x.com/GAINPOWERORG
Facebook: facebook.com/gainpowerorg
Bluesky: gainpower.bsky.social
Follow us and help amplify these opportunities.
Why We Do It This Way
Some ask: “Why can’t I just post directly to Substack or the Google Group?”
Because maintaining this system takes a lot of labor—and only one of our platforms helps fund the ecosystem: the Career Center. It also offers far more features for both employers and job seekers.
Everything else we do—from visual formatting on Substack to Slack engagement to manual re-sharing—is done to increase reach, improve user experience, and give employers maximum value.
We built this system because no single tool gave us what we needed. Until something better comes along, this is how we operate—and we think it works pretty damn well.
